THE MEMMIUS MONUMENT

When one goes back to the Curetes Street from the Domitian Square, a relief of the goddess of Victory Nike and the remains of a fountain are ob served at the crossroads. Nike was the winged messenger of the gods who delegated her to take victory everywhere she goes. Just Accross this relief, there is a monument built in the name of the family of Mem mius who was the grandchild of the dictator Sulla in the 1. st century A. D. and there are the statues of the mem bers of this family on the upper part. During the 4. th century A. D. a fountain was added to the north of this monument.
